Ted Senior Foundation: 2023 Wrap-Up

TSF Newsletter 2023

As the end of 2023 approaches, we thought we’d take the time to reflect on the past year to share and celebrate with you what TSF has achieved.

Before we do so, we’d just like to thank each and every one of you for continuing to donate, support and share our message. Without you, none of this would be possible!

We've raised...

This year we have raised over £50,000 from fundraising, donations etc!

This amazing amount is the result of the tremendous efforts from all of those who have taken on physical challenges such as marathons, cycling, boxing, iron mans, triathlons and swimming, as well as those who have organised various events and donated more generously than we could have ever imagined.

This is all in honour and memory of Ted, who has left such an overwhelmingly positive legacy.

Our Partnerships

James' Place

We are delighted to announce that we will be financially supporting James' Place with the launch of the two new centres that they are opening. Our grant donation will be for three years across 2024, 2025 and 2026.

James’ Place currently offers free, life-saving treatment to men in suicidal crisis at centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle. Due to the positive impact these centres have had, plans are now underway to expand the centres to Birmingham and Bristol by the end of 2026. TSF has a particular affiliation with Bristol as Ted studied at the University there.

We are really looking forward to working with James’ Place to help them achieve their aim of making life-saving services accessible to half the male population in England by 2026.

website to read more about this!

Mind in Gwent

We are proud to share that we have supported and assisted by a grant donation to deliver free suicide awareness and prevention training in the Gwent area.

The training will commence in January 2024 and will be running through to the end of December 2024. The training will be offered online or face to face and will be facilitated at local venues.

More information on this will be shared on our website and social media channels in the New Year, so keep an eye out if you're interested in hearing more.

Ted's Friends

At TSF, we are firm believers that the power of sport can be harnessed to improve mental well-being. We therefore partnered with the University of Bristol to bring the Ted’s Friends scheme to Bristol.

The scheme takes the form of a network of fully trained ambassadors, working together to improve the overall mental health of their respective sports clubs.

The Ted's Friend scheme is in its third year at Bristol Medical School, and they are currently interviewing for a new cohort.

The scheme is being managed by the incredible Mike Armiger, who has been instrumental in the scheme's success, and to whom we are extremely grateful.

Cardiff and Bristol University recently joined forces to support us at the Medics Rugby Varsity Event on the 2nd of December where both universities went head-to-head in the 'Ted Senior Memorial Cup'.

We are extremely thankful to both Universities who have agreed to play the Ted Senior Memorial Cup every year at the Medics Varsity.

The Support After Suicide Partnership (SASP)

SASP brings together suicide bereavement organisations and people with lived experience, to achieve a vision that everyone bereaved or affected by suicide is offered timely and appropriate support.

We continue to support SASP by providing a yearly donation of £5,000 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

website.

The Alliance of Suicide Prevention Charities (TASC)

At TSF we are pleased to continue working alongside everyone at TASC to achieve our shared goals.

TASC came together as an initiative that encourages collaboration and the prevention of the duplication of work and funding across the field of suicide prevention.

They work to share information across the field, encourage collaboration on intervention strategies to reduce deaths by suicide, influence policymakers to adopt effective suicide prevention strategies and influence the media to deliver responsible reporting on deaths by suicide.

Events 2023

TSF Rugby Match

The second year of our Annual TSF Rugby Match was certainly one of the highlights of our year.

It was incredibly emotional, but equally amazing, to see friends and ex-teammates from different stages in Ted’s life share the pitch together.

From putting on a great display of rugby in the heat to singing/dancing and sharing a drink together after the final whistle, the whole day encapsulated everything Ted was about.

A massive shout-out must go to the brave players - the day simply couldn’t have happened without you.

A special thanks must also be extended to everyone at Monmouth Rugby Club for their assistance in staging this annual rugby match which we hope will continue to grow and flourish in the future.

There are many others to thank, who all helped to make the day such a success. We appreciate all of you!

Finally, and most importantly, we want to thank the supporters who came down to watch and donated generously. Once again, we were blown away by the commitment and generosity shown by people, with some travelling the length of the UK and overseas to be in attendance.

Keep an eye out for an update on next year's match!

Walking from Darkness Into Light

To mark the start of National Suicide Prevention Week on Sunday 10th September, TSF and friends of the foundation came together to walk from ‘Darkness into Light’. A walk symbolising moving from despair to hope.

It was amazing to see so many people support the foundation and sacrifice their Sunday morning lie-in as we walked and paddled along the River Wye, setting off at 5:30am.

A special thanks to Graham and Sue Symonds at Monmouth Canoe Hire & Activity Centre who very kindly provided the canoes for everyone. Your support is massively appreciated.

Mental Health Wisdom at The Master Series: Oxford

In September we attended The Master Series: Oxford, the largest trauma and mental health conference in Europe.

Over the course of four days, we attended unique workshops, thought-provoking panels, and listened to a diverse lineup of esteemed speakers hailing from all corners of the globe.

We are grateful to The Master Series events for having us, and we are already looking forward to coming back next year.

Thank you!

Everything we do at the Ted Senior Foundation is for Ted. Together with your help, we know we are making a difference.

From all of us at the Ted Senior Foundation, thank you again for your ongoing support. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!
